One of two long lost Psychic TV albums, back in print. In 1984, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Psychic TV co-founder Alex Fergusson compiled their various four-track demo recordings to form the ultra-limited Pagan Day. The set ranges from intimate acoustic guitar-strummed ballads to primitive drum machine + Casiotone keyboard jams. Many of the tracks contained within were later fleshed out into polished multitrack recordings, renamed and tacked on to other Psychic TV releases (“We Kiss” and “Baby’s Gone Away” get upgraded on Allegory And Self). You can hear the blueprint for recent lo-fi pop favorites by Dean Blunt, Carla Dal Forno and most notably, Ariel Pink; whose entire career may as well have been inspired by “Farewell” (P-Orridge & co.’s rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “As Tears Go By”). The original picture disc vinyl pressing of Pagan Day is a holy grail for Psychic TV completists; purportedly only available from London’s Rough Trade shop for one hour - 11pm to midnight - two days before Christmas and then removed from the shelves and destroyed. The album was given a small black vinyl release two years later, but appears here on red vinyl for the first time as a joint release by Sacred Bones and Dais Records, limited to 1500 copies with code for free digital download. Recommended.
