Originally released in 1997, Whoracle marked the third full-length from Swedish melodic death metal legends In Flames. Arriving a little over a year on from 1996's The Jester Race, which served as their first studio recording with vocalist Anders Friden, it's evident the band wanted to capitalise on finally securing a permanent frontman within as brief a bracket as possible. Their final work to feature bassist Johan Larsson and guitarist Glenn Ljungstrom, it would also be their last release with Bjorn Gelotte on drums, as he permanently switched to lead guitar for future releases. A high concept album detailing the fall of society following an apocalyptic event, with standout cut 'Episode 666' quite prophetically detailing the televised end of the world; the standout moment is still their closing Depeche Mode cover of 'Everything Counts', reimagining the coldwave synth-pop banger as a trudging death-groove beast.
