Punk,
Released in 2014 on Hellcat/Epitaph, The Interrupters is the explosive debut album from the Los Angeles ska-punk quartet. Built around the powerhouse vocals of Aimee Interrupter and the tight playing of brothers Kevin, Justin and Jesse Bivona, the record brings together classic ska and reggae rhythms with the raw energy and attitude of punk.
Produced with Tim Armstrong, the album has a distinctly old-school ska-punk spirit, but its songs carry a modern sense of urgency. Tracks like “Take Back The Power,” “White Noise,” “Liberty,” “Family” and “This Is The New Sound” are packed with infectious hooks, driving rhythms and a rebellious edge, while the band’s cover of Bob Marley’s “Judge Not” adds another link to the roots of the sound.
There’s a directness to The Interrupters that makes it work so well on vinyl: short, punchy songs, huge choruses and enough attitude to keep the whole thing moving from start to finish. It’s a record steeped in the tradition of 2 Tone, reggae and punk, but delivered with the unmistakable energy that would become The Interrupters’ trademark.
A killer debut and an essential record for anyone into ska-punk, Rancid, 2 Tone and high-energy punk rock.
