Psychic 9-5 Club LP (clear pink marble vinyl)

Psychic 9-5 Club, released in 2014 on Ghostly International, is one of HTRK’s most atmospheric records. Australian duo Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang moved away from the heavier guitar sound of their earlier work, building the album around sparse electronics, deep bass, slow rhythms and subtle synth textures.

Standish’s calm, distant vocals give the songs an intimate and mysterious quality, while Yang’s minimal production leaves plenty of space around every sound. The music moves slowly, but never feels empty—there is a constant tension between melancholy, sensuality and isolation.

Dark but surprisingly warm, Psychic 9-5 Club is a beautifully restrained album that shows HTRK at their most focused. It’s a record for late nights: hypnotic, understated and quietly emotional.
