By Storm’s debut album My Ghosts Go Ghost pressed on vinyl. After the death of Injury Reserve’s Stepa J. Groggs, the surviving members of the hip-hop collective formed a new group with a contemplative, improvisational spirit. It's an emotional, personal and restrained masterpiece. Built around fragmented percussion, warped electronics, field recordings and sparse vocal passages, the album feels less like a conventional rap record and more like a study in texture, memory and absence. Parker Corey and Nathaniel Ritchie leave plenty of space in the arrangements, letting small details and abrupt shifts carry as much weight as the verses themselves. There’s a strong experimental lineage running through it, but the record never feels academic or overly self-conscious — it remains intimate, strange and deeply human.
