Released in 2013, Evil Friends finds Portugal. The Man sharpening their psychedelic alternative rock into a more focused, production-driven sound, shaped in collaboration with Danger Mouse. Built around layered arrangements, infectious grooves, and John Gourley’s distinctive vocals, the album balances experimental textures with an immediate pop sensibility. Tracks like Modern Jesus, Purple Yellow Red and Blue, and the title track capture the band at their most incisive, blending psychedelic influences with bold hooks and a distinctly offbeat edge. In 2023, Atlantic Records marked the album’s 10th anniversary with special white and clear vinyl editions, celebrating one of the defining releases in Portugal. The Man’s catalogue.
