Without ’Rubber Soul,' there would be no psychedelia. From the font to the bands' out-grown moptops, change was in the air and on this long player the Beatles (still working at a phenomenal rate) began their career as classic album producers, beginning here and ending with Abbey Road. ‘Rubber Soul,' while heralding a very british psychedelia, wasn't as full-out weird as Revolver or Sgt Pepper's... but what it did was infuse a melancholic seam into the band's songwriting, augmented with lush string arrangements and beautiful harmonising.
