Monumentum
In Absentia Christi LP

If there is a gothic metal band from Italy that is criminally underrated and underappreciated within the Italian metal scene it's Monumentum. There hasn't been recent reviews about Monumentum so I feel that it was time to discuss this band. Monumentum is a band that has come and gone over and over again. It was formed by a mysterious guy named Roberto Mammarella who at the time was also in a black/goth metal band called Cultus Sanguine. A fun fact to note is that they did a split with DSBM band Shining back in 2013 that is worth checking out if you haven't already heard. Monumentum has only released two albums, but the only album that truly matters is "In Absentia Christi." This was an album that was unlike anything I had heard within the genre, and it was one of the most atmospheric gothic metal albums ever made. "In Absentia Christi" is almost like a great wonder in underground gothic metal just for how dark, odd, and atmospheric it sounded. The album to me sounds one of a kind.
