Originally released in 2005 on ~scape Records, Kosmischer Pitch is one of Jan Jelinek’s most distinctive and hypnotic works — a meticulous meeting point between experimental electronica, minimal techno, ambient textures and the psychedelic spirit of 1970s Krautrock.
Jelinek takes tiny fragments of sound and stretches, loops and reshapes them into dense, constantly evolving micro-landscapes. Repetition is at the heart of the album, but nothing ever stays completely still. Subtle variations gradually emerge from the loops, with vintage-sounding synthesizers, guitars, drums and electronic fragments creating a warm, hazy and almost cosmic atmosphere.
Tracks such as “Universal Band Silhouette,” “Lithiummelodie,” “Planeten in Halbtrauer” and “Morphing Leadgitarre rückwärts” reveal Jelinek’s fascination with the space between what is clearly audible and what exists almost at the threshold of perception. The result is music that feels both minimal and incredibly dense.
After spending two decades available only digitally, Kosmischer Pitch returned to vinyl in 2025 for its 20th anniversary, newly remastered by Giuseppe Ielasi. The reissue also includes a folded insert reproducing the original inner sleeve artwork, while the digital edition adds two previously unreleased pieces from the same period: “NilSon” and an extended version of “Vibraphonspulen.”
